This Week In Red Deer:

Today, there will be a City Council Regular Meeting at 10:30 am. The meeting will start with a closed (secret) meeting about a land matter and code of conduct matter. During the public session, Council will discuss the Capstone Pedestrian Bridge proposal – Administration estimates $1 million for the design and between $40 and $50 million for construction. This is significantly more than the last estimate. Council will finish the meeting with an annexation and negotiation update pertaining to the land the City is annexing from the County.
- The Red Deer & District Family & Community Support Services Board will meet on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. The Board will discuss an update to the 2023 Regional Project. This year’s theme for the project is financial hardship.
- On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Smart MTX expo will be taking place at Westerner Park. This is a brand new manufacturing expo that intends to explore innovative ideas for manufacturing companies in Western Canada. The event will include industry talks and discussion panels. It is free to attend but pre-registration is required and can be done online.
Last Week In Red Deer:
- The City outlined their plans for road maintenance that will be happening this summer. The 19th Street Improvement Project will include a new roundabout at 19th Street and 40th Ave that will take nearly the whole construction season to complete and has a budget of $25 million. There will also be significant work done on the northbound lanes of Taylor Drive Bridge.

Westerner Park promised a new “re-imagined” Westerner Days this summer and the Arkells were announced as one of the headlining concerts. Westerner Days will take place July 19th to 23rd this year. Tickets for the Arkells show include gate admission for Westerner Days and are on sale now.
- Tourism Red Deer announced that it will be spearheading the major events strategy for the City of Red Deer. The goal is for Red Deer to become one of the nation’s go-to destinations for major events. There are new funding commitments from the City and the County for Tourism Red Deer to become a Destination Development Corporation to fulfill this mandate.
