Red Deer has secured its position as Alberta's most active community for the third consecutive year, winning the provincial ParticipACTION title. Although the city was a strong contender nationally, Hay River, NWT, clinched the national title and a $100,000 grant for local sports initiatives. This year, over 590,000 participants from more than 1,200 communities engaged in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, with Red Deer participating in 252 activities and earning $15,000 for local programs. The City’s initiatives included a "30 Ways to Get Active in Red Deer" calendar and a community walk-run event.
- The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame had a record-setting year in 2023, which saw over 21,000 visitors - a 12% increase from the previous year. With its 25th anniversary at its current location approaching, the Hall is excited about its progress, which includes growth in social media and engagement with alumni and organizations. The Hall attributes the increased attendance to the interactive experiences offered, such as hands-on activities for children.
