There will be a meeting of the Council Agenda Review Committee today at 10:00 am. The Committee will set the agendas for the November 12th meeting of Council and for the budget discussion meetings taking place between November 18th and 22nd.
- On Tuesday, the Nomination Committee will meet at 11:00 am. The Committee will elect a Chair and a Vice-Chair before moving into a closed session to review applications for Council Committees, Commissions, and Boards.
- The Red Deer & District Family and Community Support Services Board will meet on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. The Board will discuss a 50th Anniversary Celebration Event for Red Deer & District Family and Community Support Services before moving into a closed session to discuss a Multi-Municipal Operating Agreement.

Council postponed its capital budget discussions to give City staff additional time for thorough financial analysis. Originally scheduled for October 18th, the debate will now begin on November 18th to allow for a detailed review of the City’s Capital Projects Reserve and long-term debt. Staff said they need the extra time to assess financial positions accurately, especially regarding projects funded by both debt and reserves. Council members supported the delay, agreeing it would enable more informed decision-making amid challenging budget considerations.

The Alberta government has introduced a new SCAN unit in Red Deer to target properties associated with criminal activity. This $600,000 unit will consist of four investigators and will operate in Red Deer and surrounding areas, from Ponoka to Olds. SCAN investigators address illegal activities by contacting property owners for informal resolutions and, if needed, securing court orders to restrict property use or enforce temporary closures. Red Deer joins Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge in hosting SCAN teams aimed at creating safer neighbourhoods.
- The Community Foundation of Central Alberta awarded $29,600 in microgrants to six organizations in its Fall 2024 funding round, and the funding included some projects in Red Deer. The Red Deer Arts Council received $5,000 to expand its Hub 3.0 program, offering arts activities for individuals with disabilities. Meals on Wheels Red Deer also received $5,000 to support its Going Home Program, aiding people transitioning back home after hospital stays. Additionally, the YMCA of Northern Alberta was granted $5,000 for the Alternative Suspension program, assisting Red Deer youth with school reintegration following suspensions or expulsions.
