How did we get here? Where is our city manager monitoring the budget over the course of the year and instructing the various program managers to cut expenditures from their programs. Our city management and senior managers are failing the citizens of Red Deer. If you can’t manage and make adjustments to the budget through the year, reducing expenditure to fall in line with expected revenues, the city has the wrong city manager and along with its senior senior managers. They have let citizens down and have not managed our tax dollars prudently.

Year after year the only solution for our city manager is ask for more money from taxpayers.

We are not getting what we pay for with our taxes and you want to increase them??? We’re seniors and will have to leave if you do that.

A 11% tax increase is ridiculous. Everyday we see city bureaucracy wasting our tax dollars. The city should have started budget deliberations with a mandatory 10% budget cut to every department and work from there. I think we need some ordinary tax payers to become involved in budget deliberations to help these people get back to basics.

Deficits are sometimes unavoidavle. I believe this one was much larger than it needed to be however. Please remember this is hard earned money that isnt yours. Back to basics!

This is absolutely unacceptable financial mismanagement of this current city administration. Poor planning and foresight has obviously led to this failure. Too many pet projects and now I wouldn’t dare dream of any upgrades or renos to my house as that is what this massive tax hike has prevented me from doing. Why the city gets to engage in its pet projects but now I cant afford to keep my own house updated and in good repair?

Do not raise taxes AGAIN. Enough is enough! Cut your wasteful spending and get your budget and city wages under control.

11% is absolute nonsense. I already pay an insane amount of money on taxes and receive the bare minimum sub par quality services in return. Stop buying yourselves gifts (those rings) and start managing this city better.

I am tired of seeing at least 8 city of Red Deer vehicles every time they go and clean up a homeless camp. This wasteful spending is just a small sample of the need for the city to reduce staff.
